A private geographic cruise, exclusively by Phototeva, to the hidden paradise of Antarctica – the South Georgia Islands.
One of the most remote locations and home to some of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife: vast colonies stretching to the horizon with millions of penguins, elephant seals (at the peak of birthing season), whales, countless birds, all set in a landscape that seems straight out of another world.
A private ship with only 90 participants allows us to enjoy unrestricted access, unlike the larger ships – since the beaches are limited to a maximum of 100 people.
An Effective Wildlife and Scenic-Focused Itinerary
With a Private Ship: Maximized Shore and Wildlife Time
A brand-new ship, launched in 2019, featuring the latest in maritime technology and advanced stabilizers to minimize sea motion. All rooms are exceptionally spacious and comfortable, offering top-tier amenities. In the rooms with private balconies, guests can enjoy an unparalleled experience – taking in the full glory of the South Georgia Islands from the comfort of their own space. It’s a breathtaking view beyond words, where you can watch these majestic landscapes unfold just beyond the railing.
We know there’s more than one way to visit the South Georgia Islands,
so we wanted to share what truly makes our cruise unique:
Our Private Ship
We sail on the brand-new MS Magellan Explorer – a ship that’s entirely ours! This means we control the schedule. For example, we adjust the ship’s entire operating clock so we can be on land at sunrise, maximizing the best light and the finest photography opportunities.
Our Content
This isn’t just a cruise; it’s a “floating congress,” with dozens of fascinating lectures (in Hebrew and English) on a variety of topics – from wildlife and nature to photography and the stories of legendary explorers. Every detail is crafted to ensure an enriching and enjoyable experience, including captivating shore excursions led by our expert team, headed by senior wildlife photographer Roy Galitz.
We’ve carefully planned our schedule to visit the very best locations: including Gold Harbour, St. Andrews Bay, Salisbury Plain, and more.
Weather can be unpredictable in these regions, so we’ve secured multiple time slots at these key sites to ensure we make the most of every opportunity and come away with the best results.
Our ship is one of the newest and finest polar vessels, featuring a private chef, dining room, lounge, three lecture rooms, library, gym, sauna, and high-speed Starlink internet connectivity.
Our Experience: Backed by the expertise of Israel’s largest, most professional, and leading company in polar expeditions, we bring unmatched knowledge and dedication to every journey.
Board the ship in Punta Arenas in the early afternoon and sail through the stunning Magellan Strait, also known as the "Land of Fire," renowned worldwide for its breathtaking mountainous landscapes. Afterward, continue toward the Falkland Islands. During the day, we'll prepare for the journey ahead.
Today, we continue our journey toward the West Falklands region. Throughout the day, we’ll have lectures, workshops, and enriching content on the ship, including geographical talks on nature and history, photography with a focus on wildlife and landscape, and smartphone photography to prepare you well for the days to come.
We’ll start the morning with a visit to Saunders Island, where we can observe Rockhopper penguins, Black-browed albatrosses during nesting season, and Magellanic penguins. Afterward, we proceed to Carcass Island for a walk along the coast, observing nesting birds while enjoying a warm cup of tea.
Today, we arrive at the enchanting New Island—a classic experience of the western Falkland Islands, where we can view albatrosses and large penguin colonies. Depending on weather and terrain conditions, we’ll continue to Weddell Island in the afternoon.
As we make our way toward the South Georgia Islands, we'll enjoy fascinating lectures by our experts. Topics will range from photography to nature and wildlife. On the upper decks, you can take in the stunning views of the open sea and vast expanses while observing various seabirds.
Depending on sea conditions, we are scheduled to arrive at the bay in the afternoon and disembark in the evening for a Zodiac tour in Elsehul Bay.
Our first landing is in Grytviken Bay, also known as Pot Bay. We’ll visit the grave and museum of Ernest Shackleton, paying respects to one of the most legendary explorers of all time. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to Fortuna Bay, where we’ll see the famous King penguins.
In the morning, we’ll arrive at Gold Harbour, where we’ll witness breathtaking views of King penguins, albatrosses, elephant seals during the birthing season, and magnificent glaciers. Afterward, we’ll proceed to Cooper Bay to observe Rockhopper penguins.
St. Andrews Bay is our morning destination. Here, we’ll witness the largest colony of King penguins and elephant seals—a sight sure to amaze. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to Ocean Harbour, where we can observe shipwrecks and remnants of the abandoned whaling industry.
In the morning, we’ll visit Prion Island, known for its large nesting sites of the wandering albatross. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Salisbury Plain to enjoy the stunning landscapes and observe King penguins.
Today, we’ll begin our journey back to our starting point in the Falkland Islands. Throughout this journey, we’ll continue to enjoy engaging lectures and fascinating sessions, specially prepared by an expert Israeli and international team, adding immense value to the entire voyage.
Today, we’ll visit the renowned nature reserve on Bleaker Island, which, according to recent surveys, is home to 49 bird species, 37 of which also nest there. These include Rockhopper, Magellanic, and Gentoo penguins, large cormorants, and Caracara birds of prey.
Today, we continue our journey toward Punta Arenas. Throughout the day, we’ll have lectures, workshops, and enriching content on board.
From here, you can either take a flight home or continue exploring the continent, as Punta Arenas is considered one of the best gateways for further adventures in Patagonia. The choice is yours.
