Ocean Nova – Our Expedition Ship

Ocean Nova is one of the most trusted and capable vessels for polar exploration. A perfect choice for nature lovers and adventure seekers, the ship accommodates just 64 guests, allowing for more time on shore and better wildlife encounters. Unlike large cruise ships carrying thousands, Ocean Nova can access remote landing sites that bigger vessels simply can’t reach.

The ship offers three cabin types, all thoughtfully designed with large windows that look out onto the frozen landscapes of the world’s southern edge. Each cabin includes a work desk, a comfortable bed, individually controlled heating, and a private bathroom with a shower.

The highly professional onboard team includes expert guides in biology, wildlife, history, and geology. Guests will enjoy guided shore landings, scenic hikes, and plenty of wildlife watching.

To elevate your experience, Ocean Nova also offers excellent cuisine, a panoramic-view bar, a welcoming lounge, a library, a gym, and more — creating a warm, comfortable atmosphere as you journey through one of the planet’s most extraordinary regions.

Fly and Skip the World's Roughest Seas

Our package includes a direct flight from Chile to Antarctica — soaring over the infamous Drake Passage.

Thankfully, you won’t have to experience the legendary Drake Passage firsthand, known for its massive waves and stormy conditions. Instead of spending 2.5 days each way at sea — wasting precious time and energy — you’ll enjoy a smooth, two-hour flight aboard a specially chartered aircraft, arranged exclusively for this journey.

Upon landing on King George Island, just a short walk from the airstrip, you’ll board Zodiac boats that will take you straight to the Ocean Nova, your home for this unforgettable polar expedition.

Why Travel to Antarctica With Us?

Quality. Safety. Unforgettable Experiences.

If you’re going all the way to Antarctica, it’s worth doing it right — with maximum freedom, better opportunities, and no time wasted on less exciting stops. Most importantly, our small-group expeditions bring you closer to the wildlife and the raw beauty of nature.

This isn’t a crowded cruise with hundreds of passengers. A smaller group means more time with the animals, more meaningful encounters, and far better photo opportunities.

Itinerary Details

Day 1
Arrival in Punta Arenas

Our journey begins in the city of Punta Arenas. Please arrive before 14:00. Our team will meet you and transfer you to our hotel for the night. Today includes mandatory safety briefings and an introductory lecture about the ship and the adventure ahead. In the evening, we'll enjoy a festive (included) dinner and raise a glass to the journey ahead. Overnight at Cabo de Hornos Hotel.

Day 1
Day 2
The Adventure Begins

We begin with a two-hour charter flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island. After a short walk from the airstrip to the shore, Zodiac boats will transfer us to our ship — our home for the cruise. Weather permitting, we’ll sail south in the afternoon and aim for a shore landing on one of the South Shetland Islands to visit a colony of 4,000 Chinstrap penguins. Overnight onboard as we cross the Bransfield Strait.

2
Day 2
Day 3
Discovering Antarctica

By morning, we’ll be in a magical bay, home to various species of seals and penguins. Around lunchtime, we sail south to Wilhelmina Bay, known for its large population of whales. Our plan is to board the Zodiacs near sunset for close encounters, then return to the ship for the night. Overnight onboard.

3
Day 3
Day 4
The Southern Colonies

We begin the day sailing through Lemaire Channel, one of Antarctica’s most stunning locations. After breakfast, we’ll land on Petermann Island to visit large colonies of Adélie and Chinstrap penguins. As the chicks grow quickly, activity is constant. During lunch, we sail north again through the channel to Port Charcot on Booth Island, for a beautiful hike and penguin-rich beach. Weather permitting, we’ll launch Zodiacs at sunset in Flanders Bay — a site where we’ve photographed dozens of whales in past expeditions. Overnight sail to Neko Harbour.

4
Day 4
Day 5
Deeper Into the Bays

We’ll spend the morning at Neko Harbour, considered one of the most beautiful landing sites in Antarctica. For those interested in hiking, there’s a rewarding viewpoint; for wildlife lovers, the beaches are packed with penguins and seals. In the afternoon, we sail to Cuverville Island for another landing among rich wildlife and scenic landscapes. At dusk, we’ll sail into Orne Harbour to photograph Chinstrap penguins in dramatic lighting. Overnight sail to the South Shetlands.

5
Day 5
Day 6
South Shetland Islands

After breakfast and around midday, we’ll enter Deception Island through Neptune’s Bellows — the flooded caldera of an active volcano. We’ll explore the shore, learn about the former settlement, and walk to Neptune’s Window. Swimming is possible here for those brave enough! In the evening, we sail to Half Moon Island, home to large Chinstrap colonies, fur seals, and sometimes elephant seals. Overnight sail to King George Island.

6
Day 6
Day 7
King George Island

In the morning, we arrive at King George Island. Depending on the flight schedule, we may have time for a final shore landing. Otherwise, we’ll walk via the Chilean base back to the airstrip and take our charter flight to Punta Arenas. Enjoy aerial views of the wild Drake Passage as we snack comfortably on board. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel in Punta Arenas for a restful final night. Overnight at Cabo de Hornos Hotel.

Day 7
Day 8
Farewell

After breakfast, transfers will be provided to the airport. From here, you can head home — or extend your journey to explore the incredible landscapes of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.

Snowshoeing and Mountain Hikes
$85 | Limited to 20 participants | Register onboard
Guided hikes will take you to elevated viewpoints overlooking the fjords. In areas of deep snow, we’ll provide snowshoes. Expect a good workout and incredible views of Antarctica’s dramatic scenery.
